Abstract

To the Editor: After the report of Hittner et al. (Dec. 3, 1981, issue)¹ on the use of vitamin E in the prevention of retrolental fibroplasia, regular intramuscular injections of vitamin E were given here to all babies weighing less than 1500 g at birth who needed supplemental oxygen.²^,³ Vitamin E (Ephynal, Roche) was given as a single intramuscular dose (25 mg per kilogram of body weight per day) daily until feedings were tolerated, and then 100 mg per kilogram per day was given orally. This preparation was obtained on a named-patient basis. All intramuscular injections were given into the.
