Abstract
The study of renal neoplasms has evolved with the refinement of diagnostic techniques allowing distinction between various types of tumors, as well as increased precision of staging and therapy. The recent WHO classification includes nearly 50 distinct entities. The knowledge gained about tumor immunology, angiogenesis, and signal transduction pathways has enhanced the understanding of renal tumors as not being a single disease. This has allowed the development of targeted therapies that are now bearing fruit in the treatment of renal cell carcinoma. In this chapter we focus on uncommon tumors of the kidney, which are less well studied.
