Abstract
There is currently a debate as to whether transcription and/or replication are linked to the process of somatic hypermutation of Ig V regions. Here, T. Dorner, N.L. Farner, and Peter E. Lipsky look at the current data and propose that two mechanisms are possible, one of which is dependent on mismatch repair (MMR) proteins and replication, and a second which is independent of these.
