Abstract

Individuals with ASD often face significant challenges in transitioning to adulthood. This transition often involves a change in available supports and a shift in treatment needs. Intervention and support aimed at improving social and adaptive skills, mental health, transition planning, and postsecondary education/employment is necessary to ensure that individuals with ASD are able to achieve maximal independence and quality of life. This chapter highlights key areas for intervention, evidence-based strategies, and important considerations for supporting individuals with ASD as they transition into adulthood.
