This communication is being started as I await a flight to New Orleans, where I am to give Medical Grand Rounds at the LSU Medical School later today. The expenses for my trip and an honorarium of $500 are being provided by the USV Pharmaceutical Company. These arrangements were made by the chairman of the department who wished to invite me. My talk, “Alpha- and Beta-Blockers in the Treatment of Hypertension,” will make only brief mention of diuretics and no reference to the diuretic marketed by USV, the only antihypertensive agent sold by that company. These details provide a background.
