The assessment of pelvic stability following pelvic ring disruptions

Major pelvic disruptions continue to present both a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. The anatomy and biomechanical properties of both the soft tissue and bony elements of the pelvis must be understood prior to the formulation of a treatment plan. Diagnostic studies such as plain radiography and CT scan provide valuable static views of the fractured pelvis. In selected cases, a dynamic or stress view of the fractured pelvis may be necessary to determine stability. A technique for such a dynamic test is presented.
