Abstract
Rats were given tritium labelled cholic acid intraperitoneally or orally and killed by exsanguination after 24 or 48 hours. The concentration of “total cholic acid” in whole blood was calculated from the distribution of isotope in intestine and blood and previous figures for intestinal “cholic acid.” A value of about 0.08 mg/100 ml was found. Chromatographic analysis showed that more unconjugated cholic acid was present in the systemic blood than in the small intestine.
