Abstract

Women go through an immense transformation during puberty which is marked by physical, emotional, and behavioral changes in pre-teens and teenagers. These modifications are also marked by significant changes in sleep behaviors among young girls and boys. Excessive sleep disruption in the week prior to onset of periods, increased propensity for sleep at the onset of the periods, followed by a general delayed sleep phase characteristic of teenage are just some of the highlights of these sleep related changes at menarche. We will specifically focus on sleep related changes among young girls in this chapter.
