Abstract
To the Editor: Neither the article by Lawley et al. (Nov. 29 issue)* nor the accompanying editorial made any mention of the role of IgE in serum-sickness reactions. IgE is known to cause both immediate and delayed reactions and also to form immune complexes. Although IgE itself does not activate complement, perhaps the immune complexes of IgE can activate complement. Would the authors please comment on the role of IgE in the pathogenesis of serum sickness?.
