Abstract
In the F2 progeny of the cross between a desynaptic line and a normal line of Pearl Millet (2n=14) a plant with 13 chromosomes in a half of its tillers was identified. In addition to five bivalents the PMCs in these short tillers carried either a chain trivalent or else a heteromorphic bivalent and a univalent both of which were attached to the nucleolus. Additionally, the 'NOR' chromosomes differed in size and never formed a bivalent. In the 2n=13 tillers the total chromatin length was deficient by approximately 15% of the normal complement. The abnormal individual is considered as sectional translocation monosomic whose survival has been facilitated by the mosaic nature of the plant.
