Abstract

Deubiquitination of monoubiquitinated proteins is effected by a large number of deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) that function as cysteine proteases in eukaryotic cells. Huang et al. (2006) report the regulation of monoubiquitination of PCNA by autocleavage of a DUB called USP1 in cells exposed to UV radiation.
