The need for rapid access to rheumatologic consultation is growing and, in certain instances, highly appropriate. There are several methods to facilitate referral and judge the risk of aggressive RA such that significant damage and disability can be averted. Practicing rheumatologists should evaluate the manner and timeline in which their rheumatoid patients currently are referred and evaluated. This article offers a variety of options and tools that can enhance efforts to promote early referral of patients with new-onset inflammatory arthritis.
