Abstract

Regenerative medicine is the most recent and emerging branch of medical science. It deals with functional restoration of tissues or organs in patients suffering from severe injuries or chronic disease when the body's own regenerative responses do not suffice (Mason and Dunnill, Reg Med. 3(1):11-15, 2018). Regenerative medicine is a branch of translational research which takes advantage of the body's self-repairing properties in order to establish, restore or enhance normal function. Until recently scientists primarily worked with two kinds of stem cells from animal and humans; embryonic stem cells and non-embryonic or adult stem cells. Its scope now includes cell therapies, therapeutic tissue-engineering products, human cell and tissue products and combinations.
