The radioimmunoassay for glucagon has established the hormonal identity of this factor and exposed broad areas of its physiology and pathophysiology. While the ultimate importance of glucagon in man remains to be determined, there is little doubt that this previously unexplored area of endocrinology has been one of the major beneficiaries of Berson's brilliant contribution.
