Abstract

Death is an inevitable part of human life. The process of dying, however, has been an area of healthcare that has often taken a back seat compared to treatments or procedures that focus on life sustenance or cures for ailments. Palliative care is care provided to a patient and their family with the primary purpose of relieving distress and suffering as a result of disease, illness, or injury while optimizing psychological, social, and spiritual concerns. The definitions, need, concepts, and challenges of palliative care are all discussed in the chapter below.
