Abstract

Percutaneous management of biliary calculi may be achieved using image-guided techniques. These include fluoroscopy and use of fiberoptic choledochoscopes. A variety of instruments and techniques may be used to remove or break up stones. These include stone baskets, electrohydraulic lithotripsy, and lasers. In addition, conventional fluoroscopically guided catheters, guidewires, balloons, and baskets may be used to fragment or remove calculi. Such interventions may often be accomplished without the use of open surgery.
