Abstract
Ultrasound has proved useful evaluating pleural-based opacities in the chest. The potential difficulty in distinguishing a pleural-based parenchymal abscess from a pleural fluid collection on the basis of sonography alone has been mentioned, but we are unaware of any reports documenting the problem. The authors report two such instances.
