Abstract
The effects of long term maternal ethanol ingestion upon subsequent offspring have been noted, both in human subjects and in animal experiments. These studies are reviewed. Poor maternal nutrition as well as other modes of alcohol's action on the fetus are considered. More data are needed regarding both incidence and effects of this possibly widespread fetal hazard.
