Abstract

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) may be associated with detrimental short-term and long-term effects in the pediatric population, especially if it was not optimally managed. In addition to the usual hemodynamic and systemic stabilization, management may not only entail medical measures to reduce intracranial pressure (ICP) and optimize cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP), but may encompass surgical strategies as well. Highlights in the identification of pediatric head trauma, as well as its mechanisms, and medical and surgical therapeutic measures and monitoring are described in this chapter. An illustrative case is presented at the end along with explanatory figures.
