Abstract

The commonest causes of intracranial air are head trauma and neurosurgical procedures. Less common aetiologies include infection due to gas-forming organisms, mucoceles, tumours (e.g. osteomas, carcinomas, pituitary adenomas) and congenital neurenteric cysts or dural defects. We present a case of a frontal osteoma with spontaneous subdural and intracerebral pneumatocele. The value of computed tomography (CT) is discussed.
