Abstract
Evaluation and treatment of children with musculoskeletal infection should ideally be guided by evidence. Recent efforts have been made to improve care through standardized clinical practice guidelines and algorithms. Regional variation in clinical case volume and relative severity of illness may limit applicability of guidelines unless they are founded on general principles that may work in most settings. This chapter provides an overview of the deep and superficial infections commonly encountered by pediatric orthopedic surgeons in clinical practice.
