Abstract

Electromyography (EMG) is a used to diagnose and characterize radiculopathy and other neuromuscular conditions in the spine population. This chapter will provide an overview of EMG techniques and discuss strengths and limitations of EMG. EMG findings of radiculopathy correlate with improved outcomes after treatments for radicular pain such as epidural steroid injections and surgery. However, it is important to be aware of the limitations of EMG studies and interpret the results along with other information to make informed clinical decisions.
