N1 - Funding Information: Summary Cells with an extra tiny centric fragment of unspecified origin were consistently found in cultures of blood, skin, and testis from a 19-year-old man with malformations and slight mental retardation. The extra chromosome was seen also in some cells at different stages of meiosis. Meiotic studies in these cases are of practical importance, because they can help in assessing the risk of chromosomal imbalance in the prospective offspring. This research was supported by a grant of the Swedish Medical Research Council to J. L. and by Contract EuRATOM-University of Pavia 023-63-2 BIOI to M.F. Funding Information: SUMMARY The results indicate that, in anaesthetised dogs, endo- portal injection of secretin-containing crude extract of hog duodenal mucosa is followed within 180 seconds by a more than threefold rise in mean pancreaticoduodenal- vein plasma-insulin concentration. This rise appears not to be the result of a change in pancreatic blood-flow. Purified secretin gave similar results, suggesting that it was the active component of the crude extract. The response of insulin secretion to secretin is not accom- panied by arterial hyperglycaemia and, in this respect, as well as in respect to its more rapid onset, differs from the insulin response to glucagon. This study was supported by U.S. Public Health Service grant NIH-5-R01-AM02700-08 and by the Upjohn Company, Kalama- zoo, Michigan, and the Ames Company, Inc., Elkhart, Indiana.
