Abstract

Caregivers of patients with dementia frequently suffer from sleep disturbances, and factors such as age, gender (especially female), caregiver burden, and depression place them at higher risk. Sleep deprivation from sleep-wake disturbance can result in worsening physical health outcomes and contribute to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. We will examine a case of insomnia in a woman who cares for her husband with advanced dementia to try to elucidate the cause and consider appropriate treatment options.
