Diabetes mellitus has a profound effect on plasma lipid metabolism especially triglycerides. One complication of hypertriglyceridemia is acute pancreatitis. Institution of insulin therapy caused a resolution of the hypertriglyceridemia and a cessation of the episodes of acute pancreatitis.
