DCR for Non-trauma Patients

Abstract

Damage control resuscitation (DCR) principles have been well-established in the trauma literature and are now being applied to multiple different patient populations. In current practice, DCR can and should be applied to adult, pediatric, and geriatric patients alike. Specific applications include patients with perioperative hemorrhage, obstetric hemorrhage, and gastrointestinal hemorrhage. Perhaps the most important consideration when applying DCR to non-trauma patients is to account for variations in patient physiology across these different populations. This chapter will highlight some of the key features of DCR in non-trauma patients.
