Abstract

Computed tomography angiogram (CTA) has become an important imaging modality in the evaluation of aortic diseases, both congenital and acquired. CT has several advantages including rapid turnaround time, relatively higher availability than magnetic resonance imaging, high spatial and temporal resolution, wide field-of-view and multiplanar reconstruction capabilities. Disadvantages include the use of ionizing radiation and contrast nephrotoxicity in patients with severe renal dysfunction. With modern scanners, CTA of the entire aorta can be performed in few seconds. CTA has replaced invasive angiography as the modality of choice in the diagnostic evaluation of acute aortic syndromes.
