Abstract
A study was conducted on the effects of detector design, calcification size, and magnification on detection of microcalcifications in uniform and tissue structure backgrounds. Its objective was to focus on contrast-to-noise considerations in the detection of microcalcifications. This paper aims to determine how screen/film and digital mammography techniques perform in two different backgrounds: a smooth, uniform background and a spatially complex background, similar to a human breast.
