This self-directed learning module highlights new advances in selected topics related to brain injury rehabilitation. It is part of the chapter on brain injury rehabilitation in the Self-Directed Physiatric Education Program for practitioners and trainees in the physical medicine and rehabilitation. This article explores medical and rehabilitation issues to the care of persons with cerebral aneurysms and hypoxic brain injury, those with mild traumatic brain injury, and those who are minimally responsive as a result of severe brain injury. New drug management in severe brain injury, and explanations of the impact of various medical issues in the rehabilitation of patients with a cerebral aneurysm or hypoxic brain injury.
