Abstract

The elements of the pump-oxygenator circuit are listed and analyzed for blood traumatizing potential. Management of blood and organ damage from extracorporeal oxygenation is reviewed. Circuit designs and techniques to enhance blood compatibility of pump-oxygenator circuits is evaluated.
