Abstract
Coupling gene activity to the formation of condensates is proposed to enable the robust and precise changes in gene expression during development. In this review, Benjamin Sabari describes the emerging role of condensates in gene activation, the features of macromolecules enabling this process, condensate regulation in development, and condensate dysregulation in diseases.
