Asthma in law enforcement

Asthma is a common illness that occupational physicians who care for law enforcement workers are likely to encounter. Work-related asthma (OA) secondary to exposure to respiratory irritants or sensitizers can occur but is not common. There are no published guidelines that are specific to law enforcement workers, and policies differ between departments [63]. With appropriate treatment, including attention to controlling nocturnal and exercise-induced symptoms, many officers are able to fulfill their job requirements.
