Abstract

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy based metabonomics has numerous applications in plant science and natural product chemistry. NMR is a versatile and robust tool evolved for metabolic profiling, metabolomic and metabonomic studies. NMR spectroscopy provides a comprehensive analysis of phyto-metabolome which is comparative to standard references by using multi-dimensional NMR spectroscopy. The large-scale comparisons and evaluations of metabolome are possible with NMR spectroscopy and chemometric analysis. We discuss the practical aspects of the application and potential of NMR spectroscopy applied to metabolomics.
