Abstract
With the high incidence of ankle injuries in youth sports, understanding ankle anatomy in injuries is paramount. Ankle sprains are the most commonly encountered acute ankle injury, but unique fracture patterns including Salter-Harris growth plate and transitional fractures also occur frequently. Chronic conditions which may present with pain in the absence of injury include osteochondral lesions of the talus, peroneal tendon disorders, and os trigonum syndrome. With an accurate diagnosis of ankle conditions, you can help guide young athletes on sport participation recommendations that are both safe and timely.
