Abstract
The purpose of this brief communication is to report results with three antimicrobial agents that were given in an attempt to eliminate pharyngeal carriage of H influenzae type b infants and children. Two groups of subjects were studied. Group 1 consisted of infants and children who were close contacts of patients with culture-proved disease treated at Parkland Memorial Hospital or Children's Medical Center, Dallas. Group 2 consisted of 362 infants and children who were part of a large 'mother's day out' program in which four cases of H influenzae type b disease occurred in a ten-day period.
