Abstract
• Aim: To investigate the method and effect of vitrectomy surgery in treating rhegmatogenous retinal detachment complicated by choroidal detachment. • Methods: A total of 18 cases (18 eyes) with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment combined with choroidal detachment underwent vitrectomy surgery. Visual acuity, retinal reattachment and complications were observed during the follow-up of 2-6mo (mean 3.3mo) after the surgery. • Results: Retina was reattached in 13 eyes (72%) and their visual acuity was improved in different degrees. In the other 5 eyes in which retina was not reattached, 3 eyes were repaired after the second surgery and the eyeballs of the other 2 eyes atrophied. The main complications included uveitis, vitreous hemorrhages and intraocular tension. • Conclusion: Most eyes of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment associated with choroidal detachment can be repaired by vitrectomy surgery in time.
