Abstract
Although a variety of skin incision patterns have been utilized with varying degrees of success, the Wise pattern inverted-Thand vertical breast reduction short scar technique have persisted for decades. In South America and Europe, short scar or vertical methods of breast reduction have been used for many years and remain a favored method. Among these shorter scars techniques, thanks to Arie [1] and Pitanguy [2], the mosque dome pattern of skin incision has gained the greatest acceptance [3]. Understanding the technical refinements of Lejour s [4] vertical reduction mammaplasty design requires a broad understanding of the solutions that others have off ered to the challenge of breast reduction and mastopexy. As multiple studies have revealed, plastic surgeons performing breast reduction typically rely on techniques learned in training or early in practice [5]. While most of these studies point to the Wise pattern inferior pedicle breast reduction as one of the preferred techniques among many plastic surgeons, vertical pattern breast reductions are increasing in popularity [5, 6].
