Abstract

Traumatic injury is a public health epidemic within the United States. The growth of trauma systems within the United States has saved countless lives as trauma care continues to improve nationally. This article briefly looks at the history of trauma systems within the United States, focusing on the Maryland system, one of the nation's first statewide, regionalized and organized trauma systems.
