Abstract
The possible mechanisms of excitability of artificial membranes are considered. It is assumed that one of the partial current-voltage characteristics is non-monotonic. The dynamic variables describing the state of the membrane are the membrane potential difference and depending on the model, the surface concentration of the substance inhibiting the transfer of ions, or the near-membrane concentration of the penetrating ions. It is shown that in both models different phenomena are possible-transfer between stable states, generation of an impulse, auto-oscillations.
