Abstract
The solvation effects on the structure of cationized amino acids in the gas phase was analyzed. It was found that the solution-phase amino acids exists, till zwitterionic forms over a wide range of pHs, but nonzwitterionic in the absence of water. The gas phase amino acid complexes were formed using electrospray ionization. It was also found that the ions were trapped in a fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrometry, and undergoes blackbody infrared radiative dissociation (BIRD).
