Abstract
Targeting cytotoxic agents or other effecters to vascular endothelial cells in solid tumours is an attractive new concept in cancer therapy. Killing these cells should initiate platelet aggregation and blood coagulation locally within the tumour vasculature, lending to tumour cell killing through starvation of oxygen and nutrients. In the present article, we review our progress in the development of this concept, from its validation in a mouse tumour model, to the identification of markers that might permit the selective attack of tumour vasculature in man.
