Abstract

The intra- and intermolecular condensation of alcohols with bis-sulfone methylenes, i.e., dehydrative alkylation, using DEAD and Ph₃P proceeds stereospecifically at room temperature under essentially neutral conditions affording good to excellent yields of alkylation/annulation products.
