N2 - We have described a small series of patients with SEC detected in the thoracic aorta in the absence of aortic dissection. Although SEC is an uncommon finding in patients referred for TEE, when it is detected in the thoracic aorta, the incidence of concomitant aortic or cardiac pathology is high. The role of this finding for cardiovascular thromboembolic events remains undetermined.
