Small intestinal bleeding

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Small intestinal bleeding, defined as bleeding occurring between the ampulla of Vater and ileocecal valve, often poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges in the care of pediatric patients. While the incidence of obscure gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding in children is unknown, it accounts for 5% of all GI bleeding in adult series. This chapter will review the diagnostic modalities most often used for evaluation, and will subsequently discuss etiologies of and therapy for small intestinal bleeding in children.
