Abstract
Revision surgery of the femoral stem has become an increasingly more common procedure. This surgery can be complicated and difficult for both the patient and the surgeon. Because of these complications, several techniques have been developed. Some of these techniques, including proximal femoral allografting and impaction grafting, incorporate the use of cement for fixation within the host femur. Direct cement fixation of stem to host bone has shown mixed results and initial popularity has decreased. In contrast, both bulk proximal femoral allografting and the use of impaction allografting have been shown to be effective in situations when host bone is deficient.
