Recent results from the MINOS experiment

Abstract

The Main Injector Neutrino Oscillation Search (MINOS) is a long baseline experiment designed to precisely measure the parameters of atmospheric neutrino oscillations using an artificial beam, the Fermilab Neutrinos at Main Injector (NuMI) beam. The beam is sent through the 1 kt near detector at Fermilab to the 5.4 kt far detector, 735 km away in the Soudan Mine in Minnesota. Analysis of the first year of data has yielded a best fit for the oscillation parameters of = 2.74+00:42: x 103eV2/c4 and sin2(2823) 0.87 (at 68% C.L.). The performance of the NuMI beam and the MINOS detectors is also reported, along with an outline of the other physics analyses being pursued.
