Abstract

Abstract— Subcellular fractions of rat brain cortex bound 6.8 ± 0.4 fmol of 125I‐labeled α‐naja toxin per milligram of protein. Toxin binding was saturable and specific e.g. nicotinic agonist and antagonist blockable. Regions in rat brain varied in saturable, specific toxin binding with hippocampus, olfactory area and corpus striatum displaying greatest toxin binding. We conclude that 125I‐α‐naja toxin is a suitable probe for nicotinic cholinergic receptor in brain.
