Abstract
MRI plays an important role in managing patients with cardiomyopathy by determining the presence or extent of ischemic scar or interstitial fibrosis using viability imaging. Delayed Enhancement MRI is an excellent technique for accurate, reproducible detection and quantification of myocardial scar. Cardiac MRI with delayed enhancement is also useful in the differentiation of ischemic from nonischemic cardiomyopathies and in the characterization of various nonischemic cardiomyopathies. The presence of scar/interstitial fibrosis is a substrate for arrhythmia and increases the risk of adverse cardiovascular events, making DE-MRI an important tool for prognosis.
