Abstract

Infertility is the inability to conceive after ∼12months of unprotected sexual intercourse. It affects 10%-15% of couples trying to conceive. While on presentation to a reproductive endocrinologist, female factors are typically addressed. While male factors are only taken into account after failure of an exhaustive analysis of the female. Given that male factor can be identified as the contributory cause of infertility in 50%-60% of couples, such a treatment paradigm often results in delay and an incomplete assessment of the couples reproductive potential. Many reproductive endocrinologists are now moving to a prompt referral of the male to a urologist/reproductive specialist to facilitate improved outcomes.
