N2 - Inguinal hernia repair is the most common operation performed in infants and children. In this article, the embryology, clinical presentation, and treatment of congenital inguinal hernias and umbilical hernias in children are reviewed. Specific attention is directed to such topics as the incarcerated hernia, hernias in girls, hernia repair in premature infants, and anesthetic considerations.
